Now a much-loved modern classic, The Country Girls Trilogy was fiercely controversial when first published in the 1960s. Banned by the Irish censors and burned by the Church, the books nonetheless achieved widespread acclaim and international success, and launched Edna O'Brien's literary career. These three BBC radio adaptations follow the lives and loves of best friends Kate and Baba, two teenage girls growing up in repressive rural Ireland in the years before the sexual revolution.

Caithleen and Baba, first encountered in 'The Country Girls' (3681), are now living in Dublin. Baba, looking for a good time, drags with her a reluctant Kate. Then Kate meets Eugene, a film director, and for a while her romantic dreams are fulfilled. But Eugene is a Protestant divorce´ and soon Kate's drunkard father summons a lynch mob.

Third book of ‘Country Girls', sequel to 'The Lonely Girl' (9506). Once Kate and Baba had great hopes of married bliss; but Kate, bored with her grey husband in their grey stone house, is driven to indiscretions she can hardly handle without Baba's help. And Baba has her own hands full with the passions of her rich and vulgar builder.
